Climate Action Plan

This Climate Action Plan reflects our current reality and will evolve as our data quality, operational capacity, and understanding of our impact continue to improve.

Last updated: February 2026

1. Who We Are & Why We Act on Climate

From its foundation, our company has been built on strong environmental and social values. We believe that businesses have a responsibility to minimize negative environmental impact, contribute positively to society, and operate transparently and ethically.

We decided to pursue B Corp certification early in our development, not because we believed we were perfect, but because we wanted a robust framework that would challenge us to continuously improve our environmental and social performance.

2. Our Climate Commitment

We recognize the urgency of the climate crisis and commit to supporting the global ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with the Paris Agreement.

Our approach to climate action is guided by the following principles:

  • Prioritizing emissions reduction over offsetting
  • Making decisions based on data, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Focusing efforts where our impact is most material
  • Acknowledging operational constraints while actively working to reduce them over time

3. What We Have Already Put in Place

Over the years, we have implemented a number of measures that significantly reduce our environmental footprint:

Energy

  • We source renewable electricity where supplier choice allows / via renewable tariffs or certificates
  •  In 2024, we installed solar panels at our atelier, which contribute materially to our production site's electricity needs

Sourcing & Products

  • Organic nut butters made from 100% organic ingredients.
  • Ingredients for nut butters are sourced as locally as possible relative to the production site, without compromising quality or organic certification.
  • Cakes and other café products are supplied by local partners wherever possible.

Packaging

  • Our nut butters are packaged in glass jars, chosen for food safety, durability, and recyclability.
  • Our café packaging has evolved over time from conventional materials to fully paper-based solutions, making them easier to recycle or compost.

Circularity & Contributions

  • Customers who return empty glass jars to our cafés help generate a €0.10 donation per jar to WWF. Returned jars are recycled.
  • We regularly support organizations addressing environmental and social challenges.

These actions address many of the most common and high-impact emission sources in our sector. Our climate strategy, therefore, focuses on consolidating these achievements and improving what remains.

4. Emissions Scope & Current Data Maturity

Our climate action plan covers emissions across:

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions (e.g. gas consumption, on-site fuel use)
  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity
  • Scope 3: Indirect emissions from our value chain (e.g. purchased goods, transportation, employee commuting, waste)

Current measurement status

For the past four years, we have collected key operational environmental data, including:

  • Waste production
  • Energy and water consumption
  • Gas consumption
  • Employee commuting emissions
  • Inbound and outbound shipment data

While this data has been tracked consistently, it was not initially consolidated into a full Scope 1–3 emissions inventory due to limited internal sustainability capacity.

In 2026, we will begin using a dedicated emissions calculation tool aligned with the GHG Protocol, allowing us to convert existing and future data into a structured Scope 1–3 footprint and establish consistent baselines.

5. Key Climate Challenges & Material Topics

Based on our operations and growth trajectory, our most material climate challenges are:

  • Transportation and logistics, particularly international shipments as the business grows
  • Data consistency and comparability across years and locations
  • Packaging circularity, especially for products sold outside our own cafés
Energy efficiency optimization, beyond already renewable energy sourcing

6. Climate Targets

Our targets are designed to reflect our current reality, operational constraints, and growth, while still driving meaningful progress.

6.1 Measurement & Monitoring

  • From 2026 onwards, calculate a complete Scope 1–3 GHG emissions inventory annually, using a GHG Protocol–aligned tool.
  • Establish 2026 as the first full emissions baseline year.
  • Track key intensity indicators annually, including:
    • Transport emissions per tonne of goods shipped
    • Energy use per unit of production

6.2 Transportation & Logistics

  • By 2027, ensure that at least 80% of transport-related emissions are calculated using route- and supplier-specific data or clearly documented assumptions, focusing on the most impactful routes.
  • By 2030, reduce transport-related emissions intensity per tonne of goods shipped by 25%, compared to the 2026 baseline.

Given our recent expansion to New York and current production setup in Europe, we acknowledge that air freight is currently required to ensure product quality, freshness, and operational continuity. We actively minimize urgent air shipments through planning and consolidation.

To address this constraint:

  • Optimize production and inventory planning to minimize urgent air shipments even further.
  • By 2028, explore and pilot sea freight or lower-emission transport options for transatlantic shipments where product quality and food safety allow.

6.3 Packaging & Circularity

  • Maintain the use of glass jars for nut butters to ensure food safety and recyclability.
  • By 2027, ensure that glass packaging contains at least 50% recycled content, subject to supplier availability.
  • Continue and improve the jar return & recycling program linked to WWF donations.
  • By 2029, assess the technical and financial feasibility of glass jar reuse, including cleaning, disinfection, and label removal solutions, acknowledging current infrastructure limitations.

6.4 Energy & Operations

  • Maintain 100% renewable electricity across all sites.
  • Monitor energy use per unit of production annually starting in 2026.
  • Implement incremental operational efficiency measures (e.g. production planning, equipment use optimization) with the objective of achieving continuous improvement in energy intensity, rather than a fixed reduction target.

7. Resource Allocation

Human Resources

  • Overall responsibility for climate action and reporting is assigned to the Head of Sustainability and Staff Engagement.
  • Climate-related responsibilities are integrated into relevant operational roles (production, procurement, logistics).
  • External expertise may be used selectively to support emissions calculation and methodology.

Technical Resources

  • Use of a GHG Protocol–aligned emissions calculation tool from 2026 onwards.
  • Use of internal operational data systems for tracking energy, waste, transport, and commuting.

Financial & Material Resources

  • Dedicated time allocation for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Budget allocation for efficiency improvements, packaging optimization, and feasibility studies related to circularity and transport.

8. Stakeholder Engagement

We engage stakeholders in a pragmatic and proportional way:

  • Employees: sharing climate goals and progress, and encouraging operational improvements
  • Suppliers: prioritizing local and organic sourcing, engaging key suppliers on transport and packaging impacts
  • Logistics partners: collaborating to improve shipment efficiency and explore lower-emission options
  • Customers: communicating packaging return schemes and sustainability commitments
  • Civil society: supporting environmental and social organizations such as WWF

9. Governance, Review & Updates

This Climate Action Plan has been reviewed and approved by the company’s highest governing body.

Progress is reviewed internally at least annually.

The plan will be reviewed and updated at least every 36 months, or earlier if major operational changes occur.

The most recent version of this plan is made publicly available.
